Theatre Day Courses
Each Envision Theatre class builds on the previous one and is intended to be taken in the following sequence:
Performing Arts
Performing Arts is the beginning of a voice, dance, and theatre student's journey in Envision. This course offers a foundation in each of these disciplines and emphasizes the collaborative, integrated nature of the performing arts. Students in this class can expect to reflect on and develop their own artistry and creative process. They will enjoy working with teachers and teaching artists from all of the Envision performing arts departments.
Acting
For students who want to continue learning about theatre, Acting introduces scene study techniques. While learning how to break down a scene and explore character, students will work with teaching artists specializing in voice and movement for the actor. Improvisation techniques will also be studied.
Intermediate Acting
Intermediate Acting takes a closer look at text. From the Greeks to Shakespeare, students read plays and learn about the historical evolution of this artform and engage in scene study. Focus is given to Shakespeare and the actor's use of verse and prose. Students should be prepared for challenging readings and performance texts.
Advanced Acting
Advanced Acting emphasizes the creation of theatre. Students study principles of directing and create their own pieces. Students also study the creative process through a variety of ensemble-bases methods in addition to the interpretation of a given text.
Honors Acting
For the serious student of theatre, this class provides an intensitive opportunity to explore acting at the college level. Students will be responsible for selecting and working on monologues and scenes to integrate all of their skills into the craft of theatre. In the second half of the term, students will produce and create their own performance based on their personal interests.
