Envision Teaching Artist Wins Top Honors at Sundance Film Festival!

Destin Cretton, an Envision Cinema Teaching Artist, just won the US Jury Award for Best Short Film at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.  His picture is the first one at http://festival.sundance.org/2009.  Congratulate him when you see him around campus next week!  We encourage you to check out the Envision Cinema website for information about Destin and the Envision Cinema program.  You may have seen his work at the Envision Guest Artist Showcase at the beginning of this school year as well.

His Film:"Short Term 12"
Brad William Henke (Choke, Sherry Baby, World Trade Center) is Denim, the supervisor for a residential facility housing 15 kids who are all affected by child abuse and neglect in unimaginable ways. Inside the gates of Short Term 12, awols and fights and restraints happen every day and Denim knows how to respond. But as his personal life collides with work, he begins to realize that he is no better off than the kids he's trying to help.Shot entirely on location at the MacLaren Children’s Center in Los Angeles, the film places viewers within the walls of a real facility and lets them feel what it’s like to live and work in a place where hope is often difficult to find. An all-star ensemble cast radiates in this gritty and honest look at how human beings, no matter the age, inevitably impact each other

The King Stag

Envision Theater teams up with the San Diego Puppetry Guild to produce this world premiere musical of an old commedia dell'arte inspired play. With original music and songs by Conservatory member Katie Balch, this fantastic fairy tale includes mean fathers, statues that can detect lies, and spells that wake the dead. A cast of 20 perform in traditional masks from maskmakers in Bali and Oregon under the fearless direction of Envision Theater Coordinator Michael Schwartz.

History of US

History of US is a collaboration between Envision Day and Conservatory classes featuring Dance, Cinema, Theatre, Instrumental and Vocal Music, and Digital/Fine Art. This show celebrates CCA’s history, national and world history and our own personal histories. Don't miss these performances!

You and your family have a one-time- only opportunity to honor a student, teacher, cast or production by “Buying a Chair” in the new Proscenium Theatre.
