Ashley Adams Theatre
Ashley Adams graduated from Middlebury College (Vermont) with a BA in Theatre and English. During her college years, she studied Shakespeare at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, London, and Balliol College, Oxford University. Before becoming a teacher, Ashley work in the Theatre Education offices of the Old Globe Theatre and The Pasadena Playhouse in Los Angeles. At the Pasadena Playhouse she held the position of Outreach and Education Coordinator. In Los Angeles she worked professionally as an actress and director in theatre, film, and television, earning her SAG card. She is very proud of all her work, but she is most proud of the progress she sees in her acting students. She feels invigorated by the contributions she knows they will make to the future of the theatrical art form. Before coming to Canyon Crest Academy, Ashley taught theatre at the Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) and San Dieguito Academy.
May Allen
Digital/Fine Arts
May Allen earned a degree in Studio Art and Art History from Stanford University in 2004. She has worked at the Cantor Art Center as outreach program coordinator and liaison to the Stanford Art Department. She has also taught fine art throughout the Bay Area and even in southern Africa. She teaches AP 2D Design, AP Art History, and Art for New Media at Canyon Crest Academy. She is proud to work with the Canyon Crest's Envision students and is inspired every day by their creativity and dedication to their discipline.
Ms. Allen also enjoys painting, drawing, graphic design, storytelling, and going to museums. She wishes she could remember how to play the piano. You can often spot her at Swami's, Cardiff Reef, or D Street on a day of good surf and sometimes in various locations throughout the world like South Africa, Chile, and Italy.
Brian Köhn
Envision Director
Brian Köhn grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and did his undergraduate work at San Francisco State University where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Education. He went on to The University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music where he earned his Masters of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting.
After leaving the College-Conservatory of Music, Mr. Köhn conducted professional orchestras and choirs in both the United States and Mexico. He has also written a number of compositions that have been performed across the country.
Mr. Köhn has taught music at a variety of educational institutions including elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and colleges. Before coming to the San Dieguito Union High School District, Mr. Köhn taught at Coronado High School. He was one of the founding faculty of the Coronado School of the Arts and the director of the music program. Mr. Köhn then moved to Torrey Pines High School where he was the Music Director for 5 years. During his Torrey Pines High School tenure Mr. Köhn was a part of a team that wrote the grant that became the foundation for Envision at Canyon Crest Academy. In the fall of 2004 Mr. Köhn became the Director of Envision and the Assistant Principal of Canyon Crest Academy.
Stephanie Lomax
Vocal Music
Stephanie Lomax received her Bachelor's of Music from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri with an emphasis in opera, vocal jazz, concert trumpet and piano. Stephanie began signing and playing instruments at a very young age. She spent many years touring through the mid-west and the south playing concert trumpet and singing. Stephanie also spent time in Europe singing in the opera houses and taking voice and piano lessons.
Stephanie began her teaching career in 1994 as the Music Director of Sikeston High School in Sikeston, Missouri, her hometown. In 2000, she moved to sunny San Diego and soon was hired by the San Dieguito Union High School District as the Music Director for La Costa Canyon High School.
Stephanie loves teaching and truly enjoys sharing her day with wonderfully talented students. She is especially proud of the work she in involved in with Canyon Crest Academy and Envision. She looks forward to creating an amazing program with her students, helping them find their "voice" through their music and fostering their passion in performing arts.
In Stephanie's free time she enjoys reading, going to the beach, doing lots of yoga, and hanging with her little puppy Sierra.

Amy Villanova
Instrumental Music
Born in Weston, Connecticut, and growing up in Malibu, Mrs. Villanova received her BA in Music with emphases in Flute Performance and Music Education from UCLA. There she played Flute and Piccolo in the UCLA Wind Ensemble and French Horn in the UCLA Bruin Marching Band, and the Symphonic Band. While in Los Angeles, she also experienced many aspects of the recording industry. She completed her California teaching credential through San Diego State University, working with top San Diego County music programs before returning to teach band, orchestra and jazz band in the district where she grew up. Mrs. Villanova recently completed her Masters Degree in Music Education from USC where she focused on instrumental techniques and music technology.
Having the common sense to return to San Diego County, Mrs. Villanova has been the Music Director at San Dieguito Academy for the last two years. She teaches Concert, Symphonic and Jazz Bands, Chamber Orchestra, and classes in guitar, recording techniques and MIDI music composition. She is very much looking forward to becoming part of the Canyon Crest and Envision families!
In her spare time Mrs. Villanova enjoys traveling, reading, going to concerts (from Green Day to Gershwin) and working on her home and garden.
Paul Washburn
Video/Film
A lifelong student of cinema, Paul Washburn most recently wrote, directed, and produced a 16mm short in his native Detroit. Drawn from memories of his mother’s childhood neighborhood, Hamtramck delivers a juxtaposition of eras and ideologies. Paul’s first professional gig was working as a camera operator and editor for a local production company while living in Frankfurt, Germany. After traveling throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia, Paul headed to California to continue his career in production. Upon arrival in San Diego, he linked up with a local writer/director and served as First Assistant Director on the 16mm feature The Pacific and Eddy. Paul is currently co-producing Fade, a 16mm thriller on which he also served as First Assistant Director. In addition to feature filmmaking, Paul has also worked locally in television for Fox and The History Channel.
Paul’s directorial debut, an ethnographic video documenting a group of writers, came while completing his MA in English/Education at the University of Michigan. Paul has taught English, Creative Writing, and Video Production at the secondary level for three years and holds a BA in English from Albion College.
Tracy Yates
Dance
Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Ms Yates started her dance training at 3 years of age, and began dancing professionally at the age of 12 with the Atlanta Jazz Theatre. She went on to perform with both Raleigh City Ballet and Theatre in the Park. Ms. Yates' educational experiences range from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts to Dartmouth College to NC School of the Arts to UCSD, receiving degrees from both AADA and UCSD. Moving to Los Angeles at the age of 19, her work as a professional actress included time with Norman Lear's Act III Communications as well as several shows with Orange County's South Coast Repertory Theatre and other theatres around the LA area. Ms Yates continued her dance training, after returning to university in 1995, at UCSD and holds a single subject credential in dance from the state of California. She continues to further her dance training here in San Diego as well as at institutions like the American Dance Festival at Duke University.
Ms Yates began her teaching career at La Costa Canyon High school and is incredibly proud and honored to be the dance coordinator for Envision at Canyon Crest Academy.
In her spare time Ms Yates enjoys going to the theatre, concerts and performing, as a singer, with Los Chicharrones Guapos, as well as The Credentialed, a band comprised of all teachers who perform to raise money for scholarships for arts students.
